Mother's Day.

Love, devotion, sacrifice.
I believe those to be the best qualities found in a mother, and we are so grateful to have mothers that teach us daily how to better cultivate these qualities in ourselves.
To our mamas- WE LOVE YOU. and THANK YOU.

Another reason that I'm now grateful for mother's day is that I can easily remember the day the Mr. and I first beheld each other and then met later on that evening. You see, I have this HORRID memory sometimes, one that can't remember how our first "I love you's" were exchanged without some gentle prodding....ehhem. So I'm glad that I have Mother's Day to pinpoint the very day my life was placed on a beautiful new path. Mday marks the beginning of our Summer Lovin', and maybe this year I'll finish the story for you. maaaaybee.

Dancin' Away With My Heart

Before we resume pictures from the best week evah! Just did some fb browsing and came across this picture.
Did a bit of dancin' and movin' and groovin' this weekend. There is always fun to be had when Nessie is around. On the way to P-town on Thursday, the song "Dancin' Away With My Heart", came on the radio, and it was stuck in my head the entire time. Love that Lady Antebellum.
Now, let's not look at me gettin' down, but instead focus our attentions to David.
How did I marry such a handsome piece of man?
Thank you, Nicole, for the picture! ;)
And thank you Breezy for hosting such a great dance party! ;)
Also, wow, I need to get your birthday gift and hump day present to you. And I should probably delete that last sentence because it sounds very strange and awkward.
Wanna know what else I stumbled on while on the fb tonight?
 This old thing!
But more specifically, this:
we've loved each other all along.

I miss you, my bosom friend!

How things work 'round here

David works works works works all the day long.
And I come to wherever he may be, these days it's the garage, and feed him.
A man can't work if he's hungry! Oh wait, this one can. He gets so fixed on whatever project he has that he works it without taking a rest until its done. I used to have a love/hate relationship with this. LOVE love love that he is SUCH a HARD worker. When we were first married I would get so annoyed when he wouldn't stop for 10-15 minutes to come inside and sit and have breakfast/lunch/dinner with me.
Solution: bring the sustenance to the man. And spoon feed him when he has hands-elbows so covered in grease that you don't know what his real skin color is anymore.

On a related note- I am so glad I married such a handy man.
On another related note- the jeep is almost all the way done. Last weekend he finished putting the dashboard back together (successfully!) Yesterday it got new motors for the rear windows and a new power steering pump. All done by David. Oh, and Chris too. They fixed a window each. I went out to the garage to see what the status was, and it was fun to sit back and observe. As a young[er] girl I used to worry about how/if my husband would fit in with my brothers. David fits like a glove. However, I fear that some of the family's "humor" has taken too great a hold on David. And it all comes out whenever David is around his mother. Mother does not appreciate this new behavior. And that's all I have to say about that.

But life is good. And God is great. And good friends are great to have.

The end of Vday Lovin'

For the day of love, David got a Camelbak groove (he's finally part of the club!), and part 1 of 2 of football display cases. Only he didn't know it was two parts.
I gave David this display box on Vday, and he loved it.
Two days later I surprised him again with this bad boy:
 He really loved it!
These display cases were supposed to be his birthday present, in November! And then they got pushed to Christmas. ...and yah. But they're finally done! I think they turned out great. And David LOVES them, so I'm happy.
Here is our valentine's day picture! David had a date with a boho. yay!
I had class till' 10...but skipped out at 9. Saw "The Vow" at 9:30. And then went to Applebee's at 11:30. We usually don't do the late late night thing, so this was out of the ordinary for us. But it was fun.

The Month of Love

It's the love month, people!!!
I've never been one to really get into Holidays, ESPECIALLY Valentine's.
But for whatever reason I felt like doing something a little special this year.
I left this out for David to find yesterday.
I had to move it twice in order for him to notice it. hahaha!
Hopefully he has better luck finding this one, sitting in plain sight, today when he gets home.
Did I make these cute printables myself? No. I don't have the computer programming nor the cuteness capabilities.
I don't know how I stumbled on her blog one night, but she has some pretty cute stuff.

The Best 2 Years!

We just finished watching that movie at my parent's a few hours ago, and it reminded me that I have yet to post about our best 2 years.
We celebrated our 2 year anniversary at the beginning of January!!!
just seeing that in writing is making my jaw drop. again. 2 years?!?
The time has FLOWN by.
I could get all mushy. but opting not to at the time being. I'll just give a quick break-down of how we partied.
Got sweet deals at the Southpoint Hotel and Spa.
brought my jar of cash earned from tips and piano and used that for everything except the hotel and spa.

went to the movies (Sherlock Holmes) and hung out with our favorite chipmunks!
did some bowling. where we each bowled our lowest scores ever!!!!
Ate at "The Famous" Steak'n'Shake. It was pretty darn good.
David surprised me with a Kindle Fire!!!! wowza. Was not expecting that! He loves to spoil me. :)
Spent alll day at the spa on Monday (the 2nd, our anniversary day). It.was.glorious. They have a couples area/retreat so we actually got to hang out with each other instead of being in separate men/women areas the whole time. Fitness room, Sauna, steam room, spa/jacuzzi, lounge, food, MASSAGES. GLORIOUS!!! And then we got all dressed up and had an OK dinner at "Don Vito's". meh. not bad, but nothing to go back to. After din, walked through bass pro and picked up a few things for the man and dreamed about all the fun toys we will one day have. ;)
And then we got home and took these really awful self-timed photos!

We love each other more than we did 2 years ago; something worth celebrating, indeed!
Two of my favorite candids:

David Showcase

The Mister's birthday is this week!
And since I just finished scanning some of his photos, I think it's a perfect time to share!
For today I present "David's best dressed":
(what's a boy to do with an older sister and mother who love dressing him up?)
will rotate later...sorry!

a true depiction...

Wurley's Mine December 2010
I think this picture captured us accurately:
I'm a bit of an odd-ball,
and David is calm and confident [and always so good lookin'].

"God Gave Me You"

I heard this song recently and I've been thinking about the lyrics ever since.
it's been decided that I absolutely love them, the lyrics that is.
just thought I'd share:
"God Gave Me You"

I’ve been a walking heartache
I’ve made a mess of me
The person that I’ve been lately
Ain’t who I wanna be

But you stay here right beside me
And watch as the storm blows through
And I need you

Cause God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
And for when I think I lost my way
There are no words here left to say, it’s true
God gave me you
Gave me you

There’s more here than what we’re seeing
A divine conspiracy
That you, an angel lovely
Could somehow fall for me
You’ll always be love’s great martyr
And I’ll be the flattered fool
And I need you

God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
And for when I think I lost my way
There are no words here left to say, it’s true
God gave me you

On my own I’m only
Half of what I could be
I can’t do without you
We are stitched together
And what love has tethered
I pray we never undo

Cause God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
And for when I think I lost my way
There are no words here left to say, it’s true
God gave me you, gave me you.
He gave me you.

Dave Barnes and now Blake Shelton sing it. I like both versions. I'd heard the Barnes one a while back and enjoyed it, but Blake's voice and style are more to my liking.

The Hammock Twist

He claims it felt really good on his back.
So good that he just fell asleep.
Well hello there my foxy husband who should be a model in the spare time he doesn't have.
Cabin time July 24th weekend.

At long last!

At long last David finally got to hold precious little Miss Jade.
When she first came down to meet the family, David had a case of the sniffles, so he stayed away from the sweet tiny babe. Good thing he was feeling better and not sniffling before babe's family left so he could enjoy holding the petite bundle.
At long last this picture makes an appearance. It's from June, roughly 2 weeks after babe was born. I just haven't put it up yet. Now it's here and we can all smile at David's enamored stare. Hims just loves them little babes.
(umm...it's late...and I'm half brain dead and slightly silly after frantically writing a paper in a half-hour. Speed typing, my friends, is a school life-saver.)

{Summer Lovin' Series}...Team D&G Beginnings...

{Summer Lovin' Series}
I'm not sure how much more writing I'll get out of David, because you have to admit, that was quite a bit before. So, you'll probably be hearing more about our story from my point of view here on out because it's hard for D to just sit at a computer for extended periods of time (more than 15 minutes).

Some thoughts that have been brewing for a while:

What I love about our love story is that we have a bit of everything in it, minus a dramatic break-up. Your cliche "love at first sight": as soon as we saw each other the first time we both knew something was there. The quickly "falling head over heels" speedy romance: once things finally got going, we never could get enough of each other- we just love(d) being with one another no matter what we we're doing. "Choose who you love; love your choice": this is one of my all-time favorite quotes from President Monson (I'm pretty sure it's him that said it) and I think that, although we had the love at first sight and whirlwind romance going on, we also had a choice to make. Both of us had other plans for the future, and it could have been easy to either stick to OUR OWN plans and avoid each other, or blow everything off as it just being a summer fling and go on our separate paths come August. Instead we each took our time and prayerfully came to the conclusion that we were choosing to love one another, even though love and marriage was something that both of us were wanting to hold off on for a few more years. We've been married, sealed to one another, for not just time and death do you part, but for time and ALL ETERNITY. This decision was a relatively easy one because we both chose to love each other, and we both promised to love our choice, forever. How simple and beautiful is that?
I hate hearing stories about couples falling out of love. Love has become so dramatized, Hollywoodized, that society doesn't know what love between husband and wife is anymore. Choose your love, love you choice. Committed. No excuses. Simple, perfect.

Is there anyone else out there who, about 6 months after their sealing ceremony, realized what a big deal that ceremony and those covenants are??? Not that I thought a marriage covenant was an easy, breezy, nonchalant, item of business. The seriousness of what I committed myself to just hit me hard one day, and I was like "Whoazaaa!" But it also made my cup overflow with joy because I have David by my side. In my opinion, you can't find someone better than my David. I am one lucky, lucky girl to have caught his eye.

{Summer Lovin' Series}...Team D&G Beginnings as told by Giulia

reposted, but this time it comes with a few pictures!, from our wedding blog in November '09:

Team D&G beginnings. Giulia's Version.
Conversation between Breezy and Giulia the day we were done with finals: (abridged...slightly skewed from Giulia's sketchy memory)
G: Breeeezy. I don't want to go back to Vegas. It's sooo hotttt.
B: blehhh I know! (Breezy then tells me a bit about her childhood summers spent on the lake with her family) Conclusion: the heat is bearable when you go to the lake!
G: jealous! My family (or should I just say my parents?) isn't into water activities at all. I've always wanted to have a friend with a boat. (Lol. but really.) The last time I went to the lake I think I was in 5th or 6th grade and it was with Aubrey. NOT COOL. (pun!)
B: Yah man. Sigh. I miss the lake.
G: Breezy, I'm going to befriend someone with a boat this summer.
B: Good plan. Can they be my friend too?
G: mmmhm.
Giulia and Breeze clean, pack, go to a wedding, move back home for the summer, and commence their work for the City of Henderson aquatics department. Giulia's first week back in her home ward, the bishopric asks her to speak on Mother's Day. Giulia's friend, Courtney, was also asked to speak.
Mother's Day Sunday rolls around and as Court and I are sitting up on stand, scanning the crowd, Courtney gasps.
G: Courtney? You ok?
C: David! He came! I haven't seen him since he got home from his mission because I was stuck in Provo.
G: Oh that's cute. He came to see you speak! When did he get home?
C: A couple months ago...
(Giulia's never been interested in fresh RM's)
Giulia looks where Courtney's family is sitting and spots said cousin of Courtney's. Giulia thinks: Wowza! David is hottt!
We both gave our talks (Giulia bawled for at least half of hers). After sacrament meeting, I went to Sunday School with my mom, and I'm assuming Courtney ran to go talk to her cousin.

Later that day I get a text from Courtney. read about it here. What I purposely failed to mention in this post was that before I got to Courtney's she told me that her cousin David will be there too. Giulia is suddenly all nervous and excited to go. Strange... because Giulia isn't interested in boys at this time in her life. Her plan: work two jobs this summer to save lots of money for school next fall/winter and Italy in the spring; serve a mission; graduate; get a good job; and then she would consider dating for reals. Giulia did go on quite a few dates during her year at BYU, but if they asked for a second she always played the "we're just friends, sorry dude" card...and was named "the ward heartbreaker" by one of her guy friends in the ward. Sorry boys! :) So yes, this giddy, butterflies in the tummy feeling that she got upon hearing that David would be coming was strange to her. "You haven't even met him before. Settle down," she told herself. [another interesting factor considering that Giulia has met A LOT of Courtney's cousins on the Robbins side of the family, including David's sisters and apparently one of his brothers (I don't remember said meeting, but Courtney swears Zach and I have met before.)]

Giulia shows up...and David isn't there! She's surprised to feel disappointment from his absence. Courtney announced however, that David was on his way from their Aunt Mer's house. Giddy nervousness, excitement, and butterflies resume. David arrives and the game begins! A little bit into the game while David and Giulia are both "in line" waiting to get into the "D" square, Giulia turns to David and says, "Hi! I'm Giulia bytheway..." while giving a nice big 'hello' wave. Courtney exclaims, "Oh! You two haven't met? I thought you did! Sorry, I would have introduced you to each other earlier." David stutters, "uhh...nope, haven't met. Hi, I'm David." And then it was his turn to go in. I don't think we said anything else to each other all night. Despite this, Giulia felt like she already knew this David Robbins whom she had never met or spoken to before now.
Giulia went home that night, blogged about foursquare, smiled about the Australian accent and words that slipped out of David, and was determined to not be "interested" in David...because if she was, she would have to change her plans, and she didn't want to change her plans (get an idea of what those plans were here). With that said, she fell asleep with David consuming her thoughts as she reconsidered her plans for her anti-social summer working two different lifeguarding jobs.
I tried to convince myself that this was the only boy I wanted in my life at the moment. Brutus!!! I miss him.
A few days later we all met to play some foursquare again. It was followed by a game of Aggravation, the first time Giulia ever played. As Giulia was trying to figure out this game, David and Rob would try to get Giulia to kill her teammates (Courtney and Lindsey). At one point, Giulia accidentally "killed" one of her teammates, and David gave a "wahoo" and put out his hand for a high-five. Rude! Giulia punched it out of the way. But she wasn't mad at all. David touched her! woohoo!
The next day, Giulia got a follow up call from an interview with the Bellagio Pool requesting her to come pick up her uniform and get processed (because I totatlly ROCKED that interview, they basically wanted to hire me on the spot). She hesitantly got ready to go, suddenly not sure if she really wanted to go through with this (working for the city in the morning and the Bellagio in afternoon/evenings). As she was leaving the house she got another call from the Bellagio saying that they just decided to reconsider her availability (because I would be managing for the city in the mornings and didn't have the most open available hours that they might need from me). Giulia wasn't upset for one second, she was actually quite relieved.

Sometime after this, David finally got Giulia's number [read as stole it from Courtney's phone. I say stole, because he certainly did not ask me for it. But...I'm not complaining!] Soon enough, David and Giulia were talking to each other all day long. Having a message from David waiting for me after teaching a swim lesson put the biggest smile on my face. My co-workers knew whenever I had a message from him, "that smile gives it away every time" they would say. Giulia's thinking, "ahh crap! You're never this easy to read, girl! Get it together! David does not fit into your plans! So get over this little fascination you have with him! ASAP." At the end of the week, she wrote the post to the last link above. If you missed it, here it is again.. What you are not reading in this post is that Giulia is doing everything possible to keep David out of her thoughts and thinking of her plans and how there is no way David can fit into her plans. She even consigns herself to say that the only kisses she'll be getting from any boys for a long time (3+ years) would be from her dogs, Buddy, Brutus, and Harley. You see, Giulia is putting up walls, making up reasons why she has to stop liking this David boy, telling herself that she'll only be getting kisses from her dogs (gross), telling herself that her hair has to be at least 8 inches longer before she gets serious with anyone because if she gets serious with someone that means she'll marry that someone and Giulia has always pictured having long hair on her wedding day (that really was a reason. I did not make that up as I'm typing. I was using whatever I could!) Deep down though, she wanted all the walls to tumble down.

The next day. Saturday. Tyson's farewell party. And because Giulia has little self control, she struck up a conversation with David. It was discovered that David was wanting to go, but didn't want to because he didn't want to go by himself (the only people there he would know are Tyson and Courtney).
G: I don't want to go alone either! (although I would have) Do you want to just come with me?
D: Yah, that'd be sweet.
G: Alright, I'll come by around 6. I'll be driving the Red Wienie Wagon, aka a Ford Ranger, and you're not allowed to make fun of my stick driving abilities.
D: Deal. Can't wait!
(Giulia is actually quite competent at driving a manual transmission. She just thought that David, a guy who works on cars all day and who is from a small town, knew how to drive a stick-shift and was a lot better at it than she is. WRONG.)
After Giulia changed her outfit 5 times, she picked David up at the set time. On our way there David commented, "yah...I can't make fun of your stick driving abilities. You're a lot better than me. I've never learned how." This takes Giulia by complete surprise. "Whaaaaaa? Well you are learning how tonight!" So, after mingling at Tyson's partAy, David's first lesson took place. One of the most fun/funniest nights of my life! We drove up and down the "horse streets" for a long time as Giulia explained what to do and laughed at David's attempts to find "that balance" with his feet. We talked and laughed and talked and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and talked the night away. When I finally got home, my cheeks hurt from laughing and smiling so much. I told David, "You made my cheeks hurt." And suddenly, Giulia was falling. Fast and hard. And she didn't really care!

A conversation between David and Giulia the following week (still in May) (again...abridged and slightly skewed from Giulia's sketchy memory)
In the guard room at work one day Courtney mentioned that David stayed at her house super late. "What did you two talk about for that long?" I asked. Courtney replied, "ohhhh...lots of stuff (Giulia later learns that it was all about her. ha!) and I got him online to update his boating license (or something like that...we'll just say that's what it was for the progression of this story)." All Giulia heard was 'boat'. "Yessss!!!!" she screamed on the inside.
G: So, Courtney tells me you two were up pretty late last night.
D: Yah...you could say that.
G: Well, what'd you do?
D: We talked about a lot of stuff and I did this boating license thing (or something like that...Courtney...what was it???)
G: Ha, she told me a little about that. She said you didn't want to quick review for it and you barely passed. If I'm ever on the same boat with you, am I going to be safe?
D: Well, you'll have to come and find out for yourself.
G: So you're saying that you would take me to the lake with you?
D: Yes. Why wouldn't I? You're the only person I talk with that I'm not related to. (but seriously, I was.)
G: Sweet! Does this mean we're friends??? (you did read the conversation between Breezy and me at the beginning, right?)
D: We are definitely friends.
G: goody! (or something. I don't know how the conversation ended.)

A few days later the Bellagio Pool called again. I didn't answer. They left a message saying that they would love for me to come get processed and be a part of their team! I didn't call back. (because suddenly, I wanted some sort of social life this summer. AKA I wanted to spend any minute I could with David.)

The rest of May was spent by beating David at basketball (hahaha), continued flirting on the phone, rock climbing, pulling pranks on Rob (it was us, okay!?) and continuing to teach David how to drive stick. Driving practice nights were always the best because we would just talk and talk and talk and talk, and never run out of things to talk about...or laugh about! I've never felt more natural and myself around someone, especially a boy, than I have with David.
On May 31st, I posted this. Let me bring to your attention the first quiz, the "When Will You Be Married?" one. Under it I wrote my last attempt at feigned nonchalantness (are you allowed to add on a "ness" to nonchalant???) for the whole David situation. "Ha. Yahh, we'll see about that," is what I said, trying to come off sounding as if nothing had changed in my plans. But in truth, I knew by this time that what I had "planned" wasn't going to happen. And that I would, like the crazy Facebook quiz predicted, be married VERY SOON.

After a crazy run in a rain storm at the end of May. I feel like my face expresses how I feel about my plans: they were fui! (foolish) And I just needed to accept that what I had mapped out for my life was not what the Lord had in mind for me.
to be continued...

Frank.

People in the back seat.
People in the front seat.
This is Frank.
This is David.

Long[ish] story short: David and his Dad are both masters at winning stuff on the radio. They both managed to win tickets to Sinatra's "Dance With Me" at the Wynn. We normally keep away from anything the strip has to offer, but we (parents included) figured that Sinatra's vocals with some dancers added to it was safe, especially considering that the Wynn's boxoffice website approved the show for 5 and up.
But as with all things Vegas, more and more clothing was being thrown off with every song and the dancing was getting more and more suggestive as the songs progressed. Not wanting to see the dancer's interpretation of the song, we walked out before the line-up reached "Let's Make Whoopie" about halfway through the show.
As we walked out of the theater we noticed this cute'n'cozy smooch corner.

The parents didn't know where we went and thought that maybe we had stayed inside to enjoy the rest of the show. Negative. We enjoyed our own show! ;)
Papa and Mama love birds couldn't resist the fun either
And really, aren't my $5 Saver shoes yummy?

The theater lobby was fun.
After locating the vehicle in the parking garage, Scott said, let's go catch a rollercoaster! And we all said, okay!!! AdventureDome was down the street so we popped in there, purchased a pass for the CanyonBlaster (we didn't put out any money on the tickets for Frank, so why not?), waited in line,
screamed our heads off, fixed our hair, tried to find our way out of the dome, on the way out hit up this game while singing "We Go Together" from Grease (or was that just me?).
Papa Bird showed us all up and was the only to walk away with a prize.
Then on the way home David mentioned that he had buy one get one free for U-Swirl (won on the radio), so we decided to check that out. Dear U-Swirl off 2-15 and Eastern: Your workers are rude and unfriendly. And why can't we take pictures inside your establishment? Even with your rude and unfriendly teenage workers barking at us to put cameras away, I still got this one of my man:
Teheehee.
The End.
